A year ago I have decided to join the board of Action place financière suisse, because the organization has been supporting the concerns of Southern countries for years and fought for greater responsibility and ethics in the Swiss and in the global financial system. In a time when the neoliberal financial system with its unlimited greed for profit is more and more questioned, critical people and organizations are urgently needed.
Since 30 years, APF is committed to the concerns of the countries in the South that are even more strongly affected by the economic crisis than the industrial nations. In their major fields of work, stolen assets and illegitimate debts, APF has a distinguished international track record. The UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) has invited APF to present their new study on illegitimate debts at the upcoming debt conference in November in Geneva.
APF received praise for their work on the premises in Congo Kinshasa concerning the Mobutu assets. The organization continues campaigning for the repatriation of the Duvalier funds and for the revision of the Swiss law on asset recovery. APF co-ordinates NGOs in Switzerland and in the countries of origin.
All these activities are only possible on a sound financial basis. However, APF along with many NGOs experiences the rough tide of the financial crisis.
